Chicago experienced one of its most violent weekends this year. At least 74 people were shot from Friday to early Monday morning, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The youngest victim in the carnage was an 11-year-old boy.
Chicago police chief of patrol Fred Waller reportedly blamed the violence on gang members who shoot into summer crowds at night.
“They take advantage of that opportunity and they shoot into a crowd, no matter who they hit,” he said.
The largest attack occurred in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the City’s Southside, where a 14-year-old girl and two 17-year-old girls were among eight people shot.
