NFL Wide Receiver Braylon Edwards is known for his giving heart. The Detroit native and his charity The Braylon Edwards Foundation recently hosted The 5th Annual Women Moving Forward & Reaching Back Brunch.
The event, hosted by the Edwards and his mother Malesa Plater, was created to honor women who have made an impact in the areas of education, health, fitness and philanthropy.
“I think when you start a foundation or charity; you really want to be able to work with something that you can relate to,” he said. “You don’t want to do something just to do it. So being from Detroit with the high school graduation rate being so low and going to public school and seeing these kids fall by the wayside because of the lack of support, it’s something we can really hit home on.”
The brunch is designed to educate, encourage and empower women of all backgrounds to reach their dreams, share their stories and help others along their journey.
“I think it’s good to catch kids young, the Pro Bowler said. “I hope to give them something to look forward to at a young age, so that they will work hard in the future.”
“We’re trying to help prepare our kids who eventually will be the ones that this country is in the hands of as we get older,” he said “I want to make sure we put it in the hands of the right people. That’s why we need to support these kids now.”
