Professional athlete Julius Peppers donated $250,000 to Light on the Hill Society Scholarship fund at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The scholarship fund will support African-American students in pursuit of a college education.

This is the second donation Peppers has made for the fund. In 2009, he contributed $100,000 to the fund.

“After considering the ways that I might be able to help young college students, I decided to continue my support of the Light on the Hill scholarship,” Peppers said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “I would like to endorse this particular fund and encourage other former UNC students who have found success to reach back and assist the efforts of current and future Tar Heels.”

The Light on the Hill Society Scholarship fund was established back in 2005 during UNC’s Black Alumni Reunion.

Students interested in learning more about the scholarships offered by the Light on the Hill Society Scholarship fund are encouraged to contact Tanea Pettis at loth@unc.edu or 919-843-9694.
