The New Orleans Hip Hop community is reeling from the loss of one its sons Mr. Magic. Mr. Magic, born Awood Johnson, and wife Chastity succumbed to injuries in a car accident on Friday, March 1 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The couple’s daughter Twila Wise Johnson was the lone survivor.
Incarcerated rapper and former label mate C-Murder took to Twitter to issue a statement on the loss of his friend.
“Moment of silence for the big homie MR. MAGIC! #TRU #NOLIMITSOLDIER! RIP @MrMagic504 & his wife. Prayers are with you and your family,” he wrote.
C-Murder and Mr. Magic collaborated on the song “Down For My.”
Mr. Magic released three albums under No Limit Records, including “Sky’s the Limit, Thuggin’ and “White Eyes.” “Sky’s the Limit,” hit No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the hip-hop/R&B albums chart.
His last solo album “On My Own,” was released under Koch Records in 2003.
Mr. Magic also joined with Roy Jones, Jr. and Choppa to form Body Head Bangerz. The group released their debut album “Bangerz: Volume One” in 2004.
