Edai Turns Nothing Into Something In ‘Came From Nothing’ Mixtape

It was in early November when Edai heralded his project “Came From Nothing” as the “realest mixtape” he’s ever recorded. The South Side Chicago rapper cited his experiences in the streets as motivation.

“Born in the slum…so much s**t I been through..I lost so many n****s in these streets…some locked up, some in a grave..So many people depend on me,” Edai wrote on IG. “But I kno my time coming, I can feel it..cause I was born from realest.”

Edai gave listeners 22 total tracks detailing his struggles and aspirations to make it out of the slums in this DJ Shon, DJ Amaris and Illinois Jones-hosted tape.

Edai’s introduction Cash Money AP-produced track “I Kno” is a culmination of what fans can expect from the tape.

Edai wonders aloud about his life’s struggles, rapping, “Just sit back, chillin, just take a look at my life/Like what I done been through, what I done did to get these stripes/All them n****s I lost, gotta live my life cause you can’t live twice/I be in these streets through the day and night, can’t let them give me life.”

Edai again talks his daily struggle and grind in the CashMoney AP-produced track “TribulationsTrials” where he pleads for a record deal to make it out the jungle where he resides.

Edai muses on the thought of accomplishing his dreams, rapping, “Gotta get a deal, my homie got killed/Hustle so hard, can’t miss no meal/Word around town that I just got signed/Everybody wanna talk, wanna hit my line/Wanna take me out/Wanna get my shine/But that can’t do that cause I’m in my prime.”

Edai’s life, squad, team and everything he holds dear is 6 Double 0.

Edai’s “6Double0 Pt2” is an ode to his South Side Chicago neighborhood and slain friend L’A Capone. This single is the follow up to the original. Edai tapped 600 brothers S. Dot, Tay600 and RondoNumbaNine for this hit track.

Edai raps, “If it’s about my squad, I can tell yall don’t want no parts/They done killed my bro, now these n****s done got me charged/Came (?) with my squad, all my little n****s, they sharks.”

S. Dot is next up to bat, rapping, “Man I live for 6 Double 0/It can get real on 6 Double 0/On the block, doing drills til Jakes get hot, can’t chill on 6 Double 0/With the squad where doing our thing/If you ain’t from round here, f**k around and get changed/F**k around get (?)/Disrespect my name, disrespect L’A.”

Tay600 raps, “My homie got killed on 6 Double 0, so I’m still toting steels on 6 Double 0/I’m way in the field on 6 Double 0 cause s**t real on 6 Double 0/And I’m 6 Double 0, I chase that bag, 6 mil for a show/And on 6 double0, you don’t f**k my squad, then b***h gotta go.”

Rondo finishes up the work, rapping, “On 6 Double, why they take L’A/Throw the choppers and they gotta pay/Shoot em dead with the glock or the A/Shots in the f*****g face, you know I don’t play/On Lil Steve man, I can’t wait.”

Edai is anti-haters in “Hating On Me,” a D Brooks production.

He raps, “Some hate on me, throwing shade on me/I ball like it ain’t nothing, can’t let em fade on me/Plus, I don’t trip on nothing, I’m shooting strings on my feet/I hear em talking in these streets/I know they talking bout me.”

Edai tapped Dreezy Dreezy to go in on the haters. Dreezy hits this track, rapping, “Oh s**t, gotta watch my step cause these h*es be trippin/Matter fact, ooh s**t, I’m like a ‘W,’ that’s why I keep on winning/I don’t chase no n***a, I’m about my bread/You ain’t about that life.”

Edai can freestyle just as well as he can write. He proves this in his “Came From Nothing Freestyle,” rapping, “It’s a lot of Chi rappers fake ass f**k, how could you listen/Boy, you crackin cards, you never been up in no kitchen/Shout out to Huncho Hoodo, man he taught me how to fix it/And I seen a couple bands and I’m aiming for a ticket/She tryna sell me p***y, I told her b***h, you trippin/She sucked my homie, so I can’t let her ruin my swisher/Can’t f**k with too many cause they fake, I need my distance.”

Edai is gonna shine despite what the naysayers have to say. He hits this J Philly beat, rapping, “Got Lean all in my cup, you ain’t gotta ask what kind/I grind and I grind, now I finally think it’s my time/Got diamonds all in my watch, I can’t even tell what time/More money, more problems, whoever said that wasn’t lying/Lost everything I had, seem like I made it in time.”

Edai touches on the perils of the streets in “Real Shit.” This is perhaps the realest track on the tape. Edai breaks tragedies in Chiraq, rapping, “You don’t know about this rapping s**t/N****s getting clapped and s**t/Wartime in the field, baby killed on accident/A real n***a taught me real, said I haf to practice it/I need a quarter for my daughter, the streets, they can have the s**t/You don’t know how bad it is/N***as dying left to right/The heat I gotta carry that s**t/A life for a life.”

Edai is about dead Presidents in “I Love Money,” a Hades and Chapo production, rapping, “Cause all this money I see/I blow it like it’s nothing, what’s money to me/Since I got a little money, what’s money to me/They say I can be anything I wanted to be/I decided to ball/Got designer and all/I die for certain n****s, but I ride for them all.”

Edai’s “Came From Nothing” is a tale of struggle and triumph. Edai hasn’t reached the pinnacle of his success in his young career, but his eyes are dead set on his prize. Edai’s “Came From Nothing” serves as testament to his ambitions.
