The Mexican government is working to extradite Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to the United States. Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto hopes to get the process done “as soon as possible,” according to CNN. Nieto made the announcement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Nieto says his government faced embarrassment following El Chapo’s well-planned escape last summer.



The extradition process could take a year or more, according to AFP. El Chapo’s lawyers are trying to block the extradition by filing injunctions in Mexican courts at the federal and circuit levels.
