The 300 block community in the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side is mourning the loss of a close associate who succumbed to injuries sustained during a Labor Day shooting.
Jerome Wood, known to friends and family as “J Money,” died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head Monday afternoon in the West Woodlawn neighborhood, according to Chicago Tribune. He was 21.
Chicago Hip Hop entertainers took to social media to mourn Wood’s loss.
Lil’ Durk was distraught over news of the murder.
“Rip @jmoney064_obloc shit aint gone be da same nomo #OTFCRAZY
“Rip jmoney we just lost a savage who put tears in niggas family eye you aint never forgotten #oblock300 fuck da bricks
“Rip bro @oblock_jmunna s/o @fat_gleesh,” he wrote on Twitter and Instagram.
Wood was a close friend of the “Dis Ain’t What You Want” rapper and made a cameo appearance in Lil’ Reese’s “Wassup” official music video.
Louie V Mob rapper Fat Trell paid tribute to Wood via Instagram.

“RIP Bro @jmoney064_obloc Shit Crazy,” SD wrote.
Chief Keef honored Wood by posting an image of the slain rapper’s “OB4L” mixtape cover.
J Money was expecting baby boy before his death.
RondoNumbaNine, an Englewood rapper who hails from 600 block, was deeply affected by Wood’s sudden death.
“I WIL GIVE IT ALL BACK JUST TO HAVE MY BIG BRO OBLOCK OTF JMONEY MY BOY! DAMN BRO ALL DA SHIT WE BEEN THROUGH BRO! YOU MY BRO FORLIFE I WILL NEVA LET YOU LEAVE MY HEART BRO @oblock_jmunna OTF FORLIFE,” he wrote.
Wood’s death was among a string of shootings to hit the Chi on the holiday. Seven people, including three teenagers, were wounded in separate shootings, according to DNAinfo.com.
Wood’s death is the latest homicide case in a city that has been placed under national spotlight due to its high rate of gun violence.
The current homicide toll for 2013 stands at 287.
