Lil Durk has been very active in CureViolence and Noah’s Arc Foundation to bring positivity to the city. Durk spoke with Hip Hop DX during the Essence Fest and spoke on his belief that the murder rate in his City is slowing down.
“It’s definitely slowing down,” he told Hip Hop DX. “Ain’t no murders going to stop 100 percent, but it definitely slowing down from what it was. It’s definitely a blessing to be a part of Chicago.
“The [whole reason] the Chicago movement is slowing down, the murder rate [is because we’re] being positive and being able to make it out of Chicago,” he continued. “I just think I’m a big voice in Chicago that speaks to everybody, especially the kids.”
Durk recently sat down with WGN News to discuss how he is becoming more responsible with the music he is releasing to fans.
“In the past I say ‘was’ cause that was happening back then,” Durk said. “The era of time, everybody wanted the drill music. …I just want it to be real. Just coming form where we come from — the South Side Chicago – the struggle that we lived. I just wanna talk about it and paint that picture of the Chicago they never see.
“When we was talking about what we talking about in the past, we didn’t really care,” he continued. “We didn’t really understand what we was doing to the community. See now I know when I rap I’m like ‘Nah, I can’t do this.’”
Lil Durk hopes his debut album “Remember My Name” will assist in curbing the violence in his hometown of Chicago. Durk sat down with Hip Hop My Way to discuss his plans for making the Chi better.
Durk said he is currently networking with leaders in the community.
“We try to talk it out with everyone who got voices in Chicago, who strong in certain subjects in Chicago and just bring it together and hope people follow our footsteps,” he said.
