Chicago, or Chiraq, has gotten a bad rap for its high rates of violence. Earning the designation of “Murder Capital,” Chicago’s Hip Hop scene continues to draw in fans that are interested in learning more about the city’s demoralizing socioeconomic conditions.
Lil Durk explained the reasoning behind the special aura that’s radiating from his hometown during an interview with Hip Hop Weekly.
“There’s a story behind Chicago,” Lil Durk said. “A lot of people wanna see and hear what’s really going on. So the rappers that’s coming out of Chicago, everybody got their own style. And they own style catchy. So it’s like damn Chicago popping right now.
“That’s why we out here, took our time to come up with ‘Vice’ and ‘Field’ to show people this really how it is,” he continued. “A lot of people be rapping and don’t really give details. They just say, ‘It’s killing out there.’ What type of killing? I’m tryna show em the details with the album.”
Lil Durk is prepping the release of his debut album “Remember My Name,” which he hopes to drop in October.
Lil Durk says he does hold on to hope the violence in Chicago would slow.
