An unknown assailant sparked mayhem Thursday, Sept. 19 during a peaceful outing at a local park in Chicago after firing on innocent bystanders with a military-grade assault rifle, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Lil Reese took Twitter to rebuke the shooting.

“Lame ass fake ass gangbanger shootin kids smh ho ass niggaz,” he wrote.



A community of residents assembled at Cornell Square Park for a pickup basketball game. A gunman sent the crowd into a frenzy after firing 16 bullets from his weapon striking 13 people, including Deonta Howard, a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the head.

Howard luckily survived the shooting after the bullet entered his ear and exited his mouth, CNN reports. He is listed in stable condition.



Two teenagers, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, were also shot.

The homicide rate for Chicago in 2012 topped the nation with 509 victims. There have been 317 homicide victims thus far in 2013.
