Lil Wayne was involved in a highly publicized beef with Young Thug after the YSL frontman made plans to title his last project “Carter 6.” The project ultimately was titled “Barter 6” after Thug alleged Wayne threatened legal action.
Wayne’s dispute with Young Thug over his then-mixtape title “Carter Six” somewhat mirrored the 2002 dispute with Juvenile over his “500 Degreez” album. As Hip Hop heads know, Juvie dropped his iconic “400 Degreez” in 1998.
Wayne spoke with Wild Wayne of Q93.3 to offer his thoughts on whether his “500 Degreez” is similar to Thug attempting to title his project after the Carter series.
“[Young Thug] was different. When we did it, we had no problem saying, ‘Yeah, we don’t need no Juve. This is 500 Degreez,’ Weezy explained. “Slim came out and said, “I’m naming my album such-and-such because of props. And I’m such a fan.” That’s a total different approach.
“I’d have to be a monster to overlook that,” he continued. “I’m not that type of person. I’d have to be a monster to say, “I don’t believe you.” If he says it’s from the heart and he’s some kind of fan, then I love him. Thanks bruh. I appreciate everything about it, if he’s a fan.”
Lil Wayne’s daughter Reginae Carter slammed Thug for attempting to name his project “Carter 6.:
Lil Wayne also dissed Young Thug during a performance.
“Yall let him know I said ‘F*ck em,’” Weezy said. “…I want yall to do me a favor. Stop listening to songs of n-ggas that pose naked on their motherf-cking album cover.”
Thug responded by calling Wayne his idol.
“I understand that Lil Wayne is frustrated about his career,” he said in a vlog. “I feel him on that. But this is my idol. I wouldn’t ever in my life swap words with him or beef with him about nothing. This is a person I look up to. Haha”
His caption on his IG post read, “I respect @liltunechi for being someone so big in my life, no matter what he say.”
