Rapper Eve took to Twitter to comment on the recent signing of prolific R&B/ Hip Hop artist Lauryn Hill.
“Wow,AMEN! This is y I love this woman,” she wrote.
Hill signed a reported $1 million contract with Sony Records. The news comes amid Hill’s financial crisis where she owes the IRS $554,000 in restitution for failing to pay at least $1.8 million from earned income during a three-year span from 2005 to 2007, according to The New York Times.
A judge has postponed sentencing for the “Ex-Factor” artist, so she may have more time to pay off her restitution.
Hill has broken her silence on her legal woes via a Tumblr post calling the matter a “10+ year battle.”
“This is an old conflict between art and commerce… free minds, and minds that are perhaps overly tethered to structure,” she wrote. “This is about inequity, and the resulting disenfranchisement caused by it. I’ve been fighting for existential and economic freedom to create and live without someone threatening, controlling, and/ or manipulating the art and the artist, by tying the purse strings.”
