The city of Chicago is averaging more than one murder per day in 2015, stats compiled by Chicago Sun Times show.
The number of shootings and shootings victims are at their highest point since 2012. Police say 960 people have suffered gunshots wounds in 820 separate incidents.
Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy issued a statement on the Sun Times report.
“We will continue to implement a smart policing strategy to improve the safety of our communities and our relationship with the residents we all serve,” McCarthy said. “Today, we are building on our community policing philosophy, gathering more feedback from Chicagoans, putting more officers in high crime areas, and intervening in active gang conflicts.”
