Viola Davis to Star in New Biopic

Viola Davis has had one heck of year. Coming off her recent Oscar nomination for her role in The Help hasn’t slowed her a bit. Davis is getting back to work as she prepares to take on a new role in a biopic slated to begin production soon. Davis will portray Barbara Jordan, the first African-American elected to the Texas Senate and the first Southern black woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Minority Students Face Harsher Punishments than Whites

More than 70% of students involved in school-related arrests or cases referred to law enforcement were Hispanic or African-American. A report that will be released Education Department Tuesday raises questions on the severity of treatment minorities receive when facing disciplinary action. Black students are more than three times as likely as their white peers to be suspended or expelled.

Florida Lawmakers Debate Jay-Z Lyrics on House Floor

One would never think a Jay-Z lyric would come out of a state representatives mouth during a house, let alone debating the Hip Hop superstar’s lyrics. But this did occur in the final two days of the Florida legislature’s 60 day session when Rep. Alan B. Williams (D-Tallahassee) argued for support of a bill using Jay-Z’s rap lyrics from “99 Problems.”

Britney Spears Nearing Deal With X-Factor?

Britney Spears is headed back to a television set near you. The former pop superstar is close to closing a deal with the “The X-Factor.” The popular Fox show is in need of judges after firing Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. If Spears is selected, it will leave the search down to one.
