In 2010, Youcef Nadakhani, an Iranian pastor, was found guilty of apostasy, the disaffiliation of a religion by a person. He was sentenced to death.
The American Center for Law and Justice and Fox News are reporting the Iranian pastor has received his final execution order meaning he can be executed at any time.
The White House issued a statement on Thursday afternoon condemning the reports and calling on Iran to release to Pastor Nadakhani.
“This action is yet another shocking breach of Iran’s international obligations, its own constitution, and stated religious values,” the White House statement read. “The United States stands in solidarity with Pastor Nadarkhani, his family, and all those who seek to practice their religion without fear of persecution — a fundamental and universal human right.”
Amnesty International states the 34-year-old Iranian pastor became a pastor when he was a teenager despite being born to Muslim parents. Islam is the official religion of Iran.
