Rep Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), a former black panther, was escorted from the House for donning a hoodie and dark sunglasses while giving a moving speech in support of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old slain teen murdered as he walking to his father’s fiancé’s home from getting snacks at a store.
“Racial Profiling has to stop,” Rush said. “Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum.”
During his speech, Rush removed his suit jacket to reveal a grey hoodie and lifted the hood over his head, while placing sunglasses. He then began to recite Bible scripture verses.
Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.), who presided over the floor, had Rush removed.
