Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. held a town hall meeting in Saginaw, MI targeting young African American men, CBS 5 reports
The historical black sorority hoped the event titled “The 4-1-1 on the Five-O, an issue of justice, a tribute to Trayvon Martin” better the relationship between law enforcement and black youth.
The sorority hoped for teens to understand what to do if they faced a similar situation to Trayvon Martin, CBS 5 reports
“We want to build that trust, we want to build that bridge that brings that trust to a point, where they do not feel threatened — our young black males, nor do our law officials feel threatened,” Rhonda Farrell Butler, a member of Delta Sigma Theta, told CBS 5.
Charmaine Jackson brought her four sons to meeting to learn “there’s a bigger picture than just them.”
“…It takes them to make a difference,” she said. “That’s how it first starts off, with them.”
