A University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student died Sunday in a rocking accident, The News Observer reports.
Eric Metcalf, 19, reportedly fell to his death while rock climbing at Moore’s wall in Hanging Rock State Park.
Metcalf, who was an experienced climber, once climbed the Mount Elbert- the second tallest mountain in the contiguous U.S., News Observer reports.
Metcalf even won several competitions at his university. He even climbs Moore’s wall many times before his untimely death.
An Eagle Scout, Metcalf died trying rappel down the wall.
Eric’s older brother Steven Metcalf referred to his brother as his “best friend.”
“It was what he loved to do,” he said. “He told me numerous times, if he were to ever go out, he’d want it to be doing what he loved.”
