After months of searching, missing schoolteacher Terrilynn Monette’s body has been found, WWLTV reports.
Monette, a 26-year-old member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., had been reported missing after a night out drinking with friends.
A diver found a vehicle with license plates matching Monette’s in a bayou. Authorities are certain the body inside the vehicle belongs to Monette, but will conduct an autopsy first.
Monette’s family, including mother, were on the scene as the vehicle was being removed from water.
Monette’s disappearance on March 2 sparked a citywide search in New Orleans.
The story of Monette even caught the attention of R&B singer Monica.
The “Without You” singer posted a photo of Monette and her student on her Instagram account.
“If you have ANY information that could help these children & the loving family find their loved one PLEASE contact authorities #FindTerrilynn,” the caption of the photo read.
Friends and family members of Monette held a vigil for the missing schoolteacher Sunday, March 10.
Monette’s loved ones gathered outside her alma mater Wilson High School to lend support to one another and pray for her safe return.
Monette’s sister Nicole Monette tearfully pleaded for the safe return of her sister in an interview with CBS 2 Los Angeles.
“I just miss my sister. When we go out to family functions, I look to my right and I see my sister, smiling. And I just want to tell her, ‘Stay strong, Terrilynn, please. I love you,” she said.
Monette’s students even aided in the search efforts.
A young girl posted a photo of herself with a placard message, reading, “Please Help Find My Teacher Ms. Monette Thank You I Miss Her Alot.”
Friends reportedly told authorities Monette slept in her car because she didn’t want to drive while intoxicated. She was also seen with an unidentified man around 4 a.m.
Monnette was described by police as an African-American, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 180 pounds with a light complexion and long brown hair.
Monette’s Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sisters created a Twitter page to aid in search efforts.
