Allegations of sexual abuse against a minor has dogged Tekashi69’s short music career. The “Gummo” rapper was 18 years old at the time of the alleged act.
Tekashi spoke on the incident during his interview with The Breakfast Club.
“This is how nasty the media is. This is how nasty the media tries to paint a picture and violate,” Tekashi said regarding New York City judicial system’s handling of his case. “This is what the system does to youth. I’m a 18-year-old kid, right? With my life in front of me. Of course, if I didn’t rap. None of this s**t would’ve mattered. But now that I do rap, I’m actually like somebody, when these charges come up, they like, ‘Oh my G-d, he’s a monster.’ But paint it to where, the kid is a kid. When people comment under my s**t, ‘pedophile,’ I’m so numb to it. I know what I am, and I know who I am. …How many people get caught up in some s**t, where a girl lie about her age? There was no sexual intercourse between me and the female at all. It’s just I got arrested for being in the situation. I plead guilty like this quick, Blood. I was scared, Blood. I didn’t have no money. I was poor. I wasn’t rapping. I was on some hot s**t. This girl is missing. She’s this age. She’s in foster care. And her family’s tryna find her. I’m hearing this, my heart is sinking to my stomach. My girl is pregnant at the time. I’m like… they were talking 15 years, mad s**t. Blood, I didn’t have no money for a f******f attorney. Nothing. I was scared. I was like, ‘I’m taking it to trial, fighting it.’ They was like, ‘If you blow trial,’ he could get more than 15 years.”
Tekashi went on to say that the victim appeared in a viral video where he performed a wrestling move on her.
“I don’t know if you ever saw a video of me back in the day when I pedigree’d this girl,” Tekashi69 said. “I did this wrestling move on this girl. It went viral. It was on World Star. I felt like when I plead guilty, I was just scared. Me going through a jail system for the first time. My life changed like this.”
Tekashi said he didn’t have to register as a sex offender. He was, however, charged as a youth offender.
Tekashi69 pleaded guilty to three felony counts of use of a child in a sexual performance, Genius reports.
You could be prosecuted for use of a child in a sexual performance if you hire or force someone who is under the age of 17 to participate in a sexual performance or in any way authorize a minor to be part of a sexual performance, according to New York Penal Law 263.05.
The victim is rumored to have been 13 years old at time of crime. Brooklyn rapper ZillaKami exposed Tekashi after posting a series of pictures showing Tekashi grabbing on the breasts of a minor.
A rep for Tekashi denied the charges in a statement to MassAppeal in August.
“[Tekashi69] doesn’t even like to say the R word [rape], we don’t play around with that s**t. As someone with a 3-year-old daughter we take this very seriously… Their whole thing was to try to slander his name and make him look terrible.”
