El Chapo has not only become the world’s biggest legend, but also the Internet’s. El Chapo found himself in the news yet again after he was rumored to have escaped prison for the third time. This rumors, however, was quickly debunked.
El Chapo is currently incarcerated at Altiplano Federal Prison in Almoloya de Juarez, Mexico. This is the same maximum-security prison he escaped from in July 2015.
El Chapo was arrested following a shootout with police in his hideout in Los Mochis, Sinaloa earlier this year. Five suspects were killed and six others were wounded, according to Fox News.
Chapo is expected to be extradited to the United States. The extradition process could take a year or more, according to AFP. El Chapo’s lawyers are trying to block the extradition by filing injunctions in Mexican courts at the federal and circuit levels.
