Tensions are boiling high as the country awaits the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial.
Zimmerman, 29, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin.
Martin, 17, was shot and killed after being deemed “suspicious” following a confrontation by Zimmerman who was acting as neighborhood watch. Martin was unarmed.
Authorities are worried that a potential not guilty verdict could spark mass riots across the country.
Houston rapper Slim Thug is so incensed with the possibility of Zimmerman walking free that he is considering participating in civil unrest.
“I’m ready to start a riot if y’all are I ain’t going to jail by myself tho cause I think they gone let him go,” the “So High” rapper wrote.
The Miami-Dade County police department is urging residents to be “vocal, not violent,” The Detroit Free Press reports.
The department is reportedly working with community leaders to thwart violence following the verdict.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Zimmerman could be sentenced to a minimum of 25 years without parole and a maximum of life in prison.
Judge Debra Nelson accepted the prosecution’s request of the lesser charge manslaughter, which could give Zimmerman up to a 30-year prison sentence.
