Jet Magazine has taken steps to feature the first black male couple in their weddings section. In an issue that hit newsstands Tuesday, the African-American publication featured Kappa Alpha Psi member Ravi Perry and partner Paris Prince.

Jet magazine’s sister publication Ebony Magazine published an editorial by Perry following the infamous “Gay Kappa Wedding” video that went viral in October.

Robert Brown and Nathanael Gay caught fire after holding a crimson-and-cream themed ceremony on Sept. 8 in Lexington, KY. Gay is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Perry, an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Mississippi State University, wrote that it shouldn’t surprise anyone “that some members of historically Black fraternities and sororities are same gender-loving individuals.”

Perry even mentioned he knows at least two other members of his fraternity that are in “same gender-loving marriages with their husbands.”

“The grooms, themselves, indicate that their beautiful wedding was not a Kappa wedding and clarifies that one of the grooms is in our fraternity,” he wrote in a comment on TheRoot.com. “However, that should not matter anyway. As an openly gay married Kappa man myself, the vitriol is and inaccuracies are sad. Why can’t we just be thrilled and joyful for the couple?”

Perry and Prince told Jet Magazine they were “excited and honored” to have their “wedding featured in the historic yet ever-current JET Magazine.

“Long the hallmark in publishing news, culture, and events pertaining to the Black American experience, Jet’s publishing of our union is historic,” said Ravi and Paris.

Jet Magazine, according to The Grio, featured its first lesbian wedding last year with the “union of Nyema Vernon and Tenika Jackson.”
