It has become common for female rappers to sell sex in their image and artistry, e.g., Trina, Lil Kim, Khia, to name a few.
Katie Got Bandz, the drill queen of the Chi, plans to stand out from the bunch to build her brand.
Katie Got Bandz sat down with HotNewHipHop to explain why she decided to forgo the raunchy route.
“They criticize females off basically how they sell themselves… how you promote yourself,” Katie said. “I chose to go a different way. I sell myself as an artist, but I didn’t sell sex. My music relates to my personality, stuff I experience and see everyday. That’s how I’m different. I’m one of a kind.”
Katie went on to explain how Nicki Minaj initially sold sex to elevate herself in the industry.
“Nicki Minaj, I been a fan of her. I’m still a big fan of her,” Katie explained. “When she first started, she used to sell sex or whatever. But like now, she selling herself as an artist cause she got to where she needed to be already. I respect her grind and her music.”
Katie Got Bandz is currently prepping the release of her forthcoming mixtape “Drillary Clinton 2.” The project doesn’t have a set release date, but is slated to drop soon.
