Drake is a fan favorite amongst many, including up and coming Chicago MC Lil Bibby. But Drake’s fan base only spreads so far.
Lil Bibby revealed not many people rock with Drizzy from his hood during an interview with Complex.
“I’m from Chicago and I’m from the streets, so not a lot of people listen to Drake, man. I’m not gone lie to you,” Bibby said.
Bibby said his NLMB crew preferred to listen to Drake’s YCMB boss Lil Wayne.
“It was Drake and Wayne,” Bibby explained. “We was big Wayne fans in Chicago, so when Drake come on, they’d try to turn the song like ‘man, what is you doing…you don’t hear this, man?’” I had to make my homies sit down and listen to what he was saying. I was always a big Drake fan, so for him to reach out to me, that’s a big moment.”
Drake gave Bibby a huge co-sign last September.
Drake anticipated Bibby’s now released “Free Crack” mixtape and even referred to the “Kill Shit” rapper and protégé Lil Herb as the “future.”
According to a DM message, Drake wrote, “Streets need that TAPE! I’m waiting on it, You and Herb the future.”
Bibby posted a screenshot of the message, writing, “#FreeCrack If Drake said it then it must be true. #TheFuture”
The “Nothing Was The Same” rapper even shouted out the two rappers during an interview with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez.
“I’ve been really inspired by just some real gutter, hood music,” Drake said. “Just listening to Lil Reese ‘Savage’ mixtape…Lil Herb, Lil Bibby.”
