Hard work pays off.
Lil Durk and Lil Bibby are repping hard for the Chi after being announced honorees in XXL Mag’s highly touted 2014 Freshman Class.
Twelve rappers total made the list.
Durk and Bibby join other up and coming artists, including, “Chance The Rapper, Isaiah Rashad, Ty Dolla $ign, Rich Homie Quan, Vic Mensah, August Alsin, Troy Ave, Kevin Gates, Jon Connor
Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensah also happen to be Chicago natives.
Lil Bibby was ecstatic upon learning the news. He posted the XXL Freshman 2014 cover to his IG account with a caption, reading, “CHICAGO SALUTE !!!”
Durk was equally grateful for his selection and posted the cover onto his IG account.”
The caption on his post read, “#salute @xxl.”
Other Chicago MCs in the running include Fredo Santana and Lil Herb.
Durk and Bibby both had breakout years since their introduction to the spotlight. Lil Durk linked with French Montana’s Coke Boys camp and dropped his debut Def Jam mixtape “Signed To The Streets” to positive reviews.
Bibby received a huge boost after Drake called him the “future.” The East Side native also released his debut mixtape “Free Crack” to much fanfare.
Durk and Bibby will be given the royal treatment in the coming weeks. XXL reports it will be “rolling out profiles, interviews and roundtables.”
The two will also partake in the XXL’s popular cyphers and freestyles.
