Meek Mill was under a lot of stress in July 2014 after being sentenced to five months in prison for violating his probation. Meek revealed in an interview with GQ Magazine he was able to get through his time in the pen with the support of Nicki Minaj.

Meek and Nicki said the courting phase in their relationship began way before they went public in February.

“About a year or something like that? I can’t say for sure,” Meek said. “Maybe a year and change.”

Nicki said she started taking Meek “seriously” when he went to jail.

“…I was left in a house by myself and it was just a tough time for me and it happened to be a tough time for him as well,” she said.

Nicki said at that time she was having complications with Safaree.

“…It was weird and so at that time I was available,” she said. “So I reached out [Meek] letting him know…, It’s so funny that the day he went to jail, he was on my mind the day before.”

Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj have been inseparable since going public and have let the affection towards one another be known on social media.









Nicki initially wouldn’t confirm whether she was dating Meek. She blushed when Power 105 host Angie Martinez mentioned his name during an interview.

She would go on to praise Meek in the interview.

“I think he’s amazing. I love what he represents for dudes that think like him and act like him and live like him,” she told Martinez. “I told him before, like, ‘You’re so important to our culture.’ We always need that type of guy, like that DMX. When I was growing up, I needed to see a dude act like that and talk like that.”
