Pregnant Chicago Teen Who Murdered Mom Plans To Raise Baby In Jail

Heather Mack, a 19-year-old Chicago woman accused of murdering her mother in Indonesia, is planning to raise her baby in jail, according to the Daily Mail. Prisoners are reportedly allowed to keep their babies for two years before giving it up for adoption. The baby, who will be named “Stella,” is due in two months.

Mack and her 21-year-old boyfriend Tommy Schaefer are accused in the beating death of 62-year- Sheila von Wiese-Mack and stuffing her body in a briefcase while on vacation in Bali.

Heather shared a volatile relationship with her mother, according to the Chicago Tribune. Police reportedly visited Mack’s house 86 times since January 2004, mostly for domestic disturbances.

Heather and her boyfriend reportedly were taken into custody after police found them sleeping in a hotel room about six miles from the resort they were staying.

The couple allegedly told police they were kidnapped by armed gang members who killed Wiese-Mack, but managed to escape.

A taxi driver told police Heather and Schaefer placed a bag containing Wiese-Mack’s body in his trunk. The driver notified police after discovering blood on the luggage.

Upon Mack’s arrest, she was seen laughing and telling a group of reporters, “You are crazy,” according to CBS News. The Tribune reports she was seen smiling and smoking a cigarette at the police station.

Mack and Schaefer have maintained their innocence.
