R. Kelly is perhaps one of the most famous entertainers to come out of his beloved hometown Chicago. But Kellz is bothered by the negative press coming out of the Chi.
The Windy City was recently named the “murder capital” of the country for its homicide statistics in 2012. There were 509 homicides in the city last year. The rate continues to rise in 2013 with 317 victims having been murdered thus far in 2013.
“Lately I’ve been trying to figure out what song can I write to heal the hood,” he told Vibe Magazine. “Eventually that song will come to me, and I believe when it does it’s going to help crack down on a lot of the violence going on in Chicago. It’s got to be done right; it’s got to come to me and it’s got to be something spiritual. It’s nothing I can force. The only thing I can do is pray about it like the next man or woman because it’s definitely turning into Chi Raq. [We want to] get it back to Chi-Town.”
Kelly would even like Barack Obama to get involved, suggesting the nation’s first black president to “make a call and show up and say some things.”
“If something like was to happen I think it would change and help a lot of things going on in Chicago,” he said.
