What better way to celebrate an award than to taste it? Rihanna was the proud recipient of the Icon Award at the 2013 American Music Awards.
Rihanna took her coveted, fan-voted honor backstage and proceeded to lick it. It was the first award ever bestowed to an artist by the AMAs.
The iconic symbol was presented to her by biggest fan and mother Monica Braithwaite.
“First of all I’d liked to say all praises and honor be to God Almighty through Jesus,” she said. “Rihanna, I’m so proud of you tonight. I know the journey in your career has not always been an easy one but tonight I applaud and admire you for being so strong and so positive and so humble and so focused.”
“It’s amazing how you always manage to take good from all your experiences,” she continued. “I’m so blessed to be a part of this historic moment. I just want to say how proud I am to present to you the first ever AMAs Icon Award.”
Rihanna thanked her fans for entrusting her with the award.
“You keep me driven, you keep this special,” she said. “I can’t believe that at 25 years old, I’m holding an Icon Award.”
Rihanna has a total of two 2013 AMA awards to add to her collection. She won an award earlier in the night for Favorite Female Artist- Soul/R&B.
