Demarius Reed, a junior wide receiver for Eastern Michigan University, was found dead in his apartment complex Friday morning, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Reed, 21, was shot multiple times in an apparent robbery. ESPN reports some of Reed’s belongings were missing.
Reed was a starting wide receiver having played in six games this season. He was the fourth-leading receiver with 15 catches for 185 yards and a touchdown, according to Michigan Live.
Reed majored in Communication, Media and Theatre Arts.
EMU’s president Susan Martin issued a statement, reading, the circumstances involving his death remain under investigation at this time by the Ypsilanti Police Department. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, and his teammates on the football team.”
