A South Carolina police officer has been charged with murder after video shows him shooting an unarmed black man at least eight times in the back. The North Charleston officer identified as 33-year-old Michael Slager even plants a taser near the man’s body.
The shooting incident occurred following a traffic stop around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Washington Post. The victim, identified as Walter Scott, 50, fled from the officer before being gunned down.
Charleston Mayor Keith Summey held a news conference on the incident Tuesday afternoon.
“When you’re wrong, you’re wrong,” Summey said, according to The Post and Courier. “When you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or a citizen on the street, you have to live with that decision.”
