Kenya native Ezekiel Kemboi was the happiest man in the world after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2012 London Olympics. His excitement was apparent after the 30-year-old runner did a victory dance following his gold medal effort- his second in three Olympics.
But Kemboi’s excitement may be short-lived as he is currently facing an assault charge. The Olympic champ allegedly stabbed a woman for refusing to have sex with him, according to Kenyan news outlet Standard Media.
The woman, Anne Njeri, alleges she and Kemboi met at a club. Njeri left the club with Kemboi after he offered to take her home.
Njeri alleges Kemboi parked his car and locked the doors near the entrance of her gated community, according to Standard Media. Kemboi reportedly asked the woman to have sex with him, but she refused. The two started fighting before he opened the door.
Njeri left, but later returned to grab her purse she left in his vehicle. Another altercation ensued and Njeri was stabbed in the chest.
Kemboi’s version of events differs drastically from Njeri’s story.
Kemboi alleges Njeri and two other men conspired to rob him, according to Standard Media.
“The attackers, who she had met when she went to a fast food hotel, called me by name,” he said. They ordered me to give them money and a scuffle ensued before one of them attempted to stab me.”
The perpetrators, he said, accidently stabbed Njeri before they ran.
