Texas Christian University Student to Compete in Air Rifle Competition at London Olympics

A Texas Christian University senior is aiming for gold this summer in the 10-meter air rifle competition at the London Olympics this summer, NBC 5 reports.

Sarah Scherer, 21, is going into this summer’s competition with a bit a confidence. She has already led her school to two national titles.

Scherer is not the first, but the second in her family to compete in an Olympic arena. Her Stephen Scherer participated in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

A single mother, Susan Scherer home schooled her children and supported their goals to shoot.

Her brother committed suicide in 2010, a devastating loss to Sarah and her mother.

“They were each other’s best friends,” Ms. Scherer told NBC5.

“One good this, we were really close,” Sarah told NBC 5. “The years I got to have with him I really hold dear to my heart.”

Sarah tells NBC 5 she knows her brother will be with her when she steps to the firing line.

“I don’t know how it all works up there, if he can watch or anything,” she said. “I carry him with me wherever I go.”
