Wu Tang Clan Album Owner Offers To Post Bobby Shmurda’s $2 Million Bond

Martin Shkreli is becoming a controversial figure in Hip Hop despite being only a fan of the genre. Shkreli is the man who purchased Wu-Tang’s “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” for $2 million. He’s also the wealthy pharmaceutical CEO who raised the price of Daraprim, an AIDS medication, from $13.50 per pill to a staggering $750 each. Shkreli is again in the news after offering to post Bobby’s $2 million bond.

In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Shkreli says he’s in talks to bail out the “Hot N*gga” rapper.

“Forget whether you think he’s guilty or not, the guy should not be sitting in jail right now. It’s insane. He’s from Brooklyn. I’m from Brooklyn,” Shkreli told HipHopDX. “He deserves a fair trial. He deserves good lawyers. He doesn’t have good lawyers. His label is hanging him out to dry and so I have a conference call tomorrow morning with them (December 15). I’ll show up with $2 million bail money no fucking problem. He’s not going to flee the country. I’m not going to lose anything. I’m going to try to make that happen. That’s one thing I’m working on.”

Bobby Shmurda’s family tapped bondsman Ira Judelson to prepare the rapper’s bail package in early December. Bobby’s aunt reportedly attained collateral for the $2 million bond by putting up several properties. But it was ultimately denied Thursday, Dec. 3 in a New York City courtroom, according to TMZ.

Shkreli isn’t the first celebrity figure to offer to pay Bobby’s bond. Flavor Flav announced in July he was gong to free Bobby Shmurda.

“Aye yo Shmurda, Flavor Flav, we coming to get you out, baby,” he said while flashing an undisclosed amount of money with an unnamed man beside him. “…Shmurda was the case that they gave me.”

In late October, Bobby Shmurda called into Hot 97 to clear the air on rumors of his bail. Bobby Shmurda was previously denied bail during his Monday, Oct. 5 hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court, the New York Post reports.

“With the bail situation, I’m wild hearing rumors going on. [Wendy Williams] telling people I got the 10 percent. My bail, I don’t have 10 percent of my bail. I got collateral,” Bobby told Hot 97. “I got the whole security. They want 100 percent. They don’t want 25 percent. They don’t want 40 percent. They don’t want 50, they want the whole $2 million.”

Bobby mentioned he has not been in contact with Epic Records “in a long time.”

Shkreli did acknowledge that if he’s footing Bobby’s bill, he’s going to have to do something for him.

“I’m a fan and I’m a business man. I’m not going to do this for free. [Laughs] He’s going to have to do something for me,” Shkreli told HipHopDX. “I don’t know what that’s going to look like yet. He’s going to owe me one, obviously. I’d like to pay for his legal defense as well. I’m a big fan, but also, I’m an opportunist. You know that. I see an opportunity here. He’s a talented guy. Every concert I go to, people yell ‘Free Shmurda.’ He reminds me of me, quite frankly. The guy’s totally irreverent. He doesn’t give a damn what people think. Totally irreverent. Totally I don’t give a f**k. I love him. I just love that style. He’s from not far from where I’m from in Brooklyn. I’d love to help him out. I wish someone would have helped me out when I needed help. He doesn’t have much money, I know that. He’s definitely hurting for money. He needs a bailout, basically. I’d like to help him out. No big promises, but I’ll see what I can do. Like I said, if I can post the $2 million, I’d do it tomorrow. I’m working on it and hopefully, we’ll see him free soon.”

Bobby is charged with multiple conspiracy counts, one count of reckless endangerment, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminally using drug paraphernalia. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.

Bobby’s next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 22, 2016.
