Young Thug caused a firestorm after suggesting young fans aren’t listening to Jay Z in an interview with GQ Mag.
The “Lifestyle” rapper took to Twitter to clarify his comments.
“Don’t be idiots, of course Jay Z is great! Duh.. I was giving an example of the generation gap from my view. Nothing but respect #udigg,” he wrote.
Young Thug made his comments about Jay when offering his thoughts on older Hip Hop artists still making music in the rap game during an interview.
“I don’t want to rap forever,” he told GQ. “…I don’t want to be 50 years old and rapping, man. I’m pretty sure nobody wants to do that.”
Thug commented younger fans of the genre weren’t listening to Jay Z.
“If you’re 30, 40 years old, you’re not getting listened to by minors,” he continued. “Like, Jay Z has some of the sickest lyrics ever, but I would never buy his CD, just because of my age and because of his age. By the time I turn that old, I ain’t gonna be doing what he’s doing.”
