Queen Latifah has spoken out to quell rumors on her sexuality. Ever since the queen, born Dana Elaine Owens, performed at Long Beach’s Lesbian & Gay Pride Event, the Internet speculated whether she had come out the closet.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she wanted to make it clear that her performance was not her coming out. She does, however, enjoy the company of the gay community.
Queen Latifah, 42, said, “doing a gay pride show is one of the most fun things.” She recalled a fond memory many years ago of her and Tupac in a gay club.
“My first show that paid more than $10,000 was in a gay club on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco,” she said. “Tupac happened to be in town, so he came to kick it with me. This was the early ‘90s. And the boys were like, ‘Take you shirt off, Tupac!’ He wasn’t doing that. But we had a blast in there.”
