A scholarship has been created in in honor of Kappa Alpha Psi member Charles Edward “Tre” Jones by his family at the University of Alabama. Jones, 20, drowned Thursday, April 5 during a riverboat party hosted by Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
Jones was a recent initiate of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. through Eta Chi chapter. It was reported by the Tuscaloosa News Monday that the construction engineering major many affectionately known as “Tre” jumped over the rail of the Bama belle riverboat.
Maceo Caudle recounted fond memories of Jones to University of Alabama student newspaper The Crimson Tide. He referred to Jones as a “strong man” and someone who would “go out of his way or do anything for anybody without hesitation.”
Caudle released a statement from Jones’ loved ones.
“On behalf of friends, family and the Eta Chi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi we would like to thank everyone for everything that anyone has done,” Caudle said to The Crimson Tide. “We truly appreciate everyone’s condolences in time of grief, and we would like for everyone to keep his family, friends, loved ones, our chapter, the University and community in your prayers. We could never express our gratitude in what this means to us.”
