Yale football coach Tom Williams resigned Wednesday amid details he lied on his resume, the Associated Press reports.
An investigation revealed he lied on his resume about being a candidate for a Rhodes scholarship while a student at Stanford.
The New York Times reported the Rhodes Trust said they had no records of Williams applying for the fellowship when he graduated form Stanford in 1992.
The lies don’t end there.
Williams’ biography on the Yale football website states he played for the San Francisco 49ers practice squad in 1993. Williams released a statement admitting he never signed a contract with the team.
The University is currently searching for a new coach.
“Coach Williams has been a dedicated teacher and coach at Yale, and his students have benefitted greatly from his leadership and passion for the game of football,” athletic director Tom Beckett told AP.
Williams’ resignation will take effect Dec. 31.
