A street change in Washington D.C. is sparking controversy between two historically African American sororities.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is continuing their centennial celebration this week as the sorority hosts it 51st National Convention in the nation’s capital.
In honor of the Crimson and Cream sorority’s centennial celebration, the city has renamed a street “Delta Sigma Theta Way.”
Ironically, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s headquarters happens to be located on the street.
A member of the Blue and White sorority was not pleased with the decision and took to Twitter to vent her frustration.
“You may have a street but when it’s all said & done what work have you done?!..Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. puts in work! #noshade,” Twitter user Sw3et Kitty @GinaJena_1920 wrote.
Much of twittersphere was set ablaze with news of the street change. Members of the NPHC offered their thoughts on the matter:
The nation’s capital is expecting a flood of 40,000 sorority members for the celebration that will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Delta Sigma Theta, which was founded Jan. 13, 1913, boasts the most members for any historically African American sorority.
