Florida A&M’s police chief has resigned amid controversy surrounding the Marching 100 member Robert Champion’s death as a result of hazing, The Orlando Sentinel reports.
Police Chief Calvin Ross served 11 years as chief of FAMU’s police department. The news comes a week after it was discovered two faculty members were engaging in hazing acts on student band members.
FAMU police department has received scrutiny over the handling of the case. Champion’s parents have expressed disappoint in the length of time of the case. There have yet to be any arrests.
Investigators turned over evidence to the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office. The prosecutor will soon issue a decision on the case.
Robert Champion, 26, died after being hazed on a bus following a game.
