Batavia high school baseball team is under investigation after a player was reportedly taped to a bench and sexually assaulted, according to a police report obtained by Kane County Chronicle.
The hazing incident, which occurred after practice during spring break, included players placing their genitalia around the 15-year-old victim’s face, Batavia Detective Sgt. Glenn Autenrieth told the Chronicle.
The hazing incident, Auenrieth said, involved five or six sophomore boys. Their punishment included out-of-school suspension and game suspension.
Though a criminal report will be made, the victim’s parents did not want to pursue criminal charges, the detective said. They want the school to discipline the suspects, he added.
Batavia School District 101 Superintendent Jack Barshinger told The Chronicle he could acknowledge that anything happened because it would violate a student or employee’s confidential information.
“Bullying or hazing is not tolerated in any form or function for staff and students,” Barshinger said. “Every student signs off on the handbook, and athletes sign off on the code of conduct.”
