Lil Durk Explains Style of ‘Melodize Drill’

Lil Durk recently spoke with Hip Hop journalist Elliot Wilson at Rucker Park on his style of rap- “Melodize Drill.” This style has the OTF frontman harmonizing his rhymes on most songs.

“I just talking about what’s going on,” he said. “I be singing a little bit behind the verses, ad-libs… even if I rap hard, you always gon hear melodize somewhere.

“I think that’s what makes me different,” he continued. “I was speaking to Birdman and he definitely told me like ‘You started that.’ I know it ain’t all talk when them type of people tell me them type of things.”

Durk previously broke down his formula during his XXL 2014 Freshman Profile.

“I got the auto-tune and the real rap, but I can do without auto-tune,” he said. “That’s what I Iike about it. I can do without auto-tune and still be versatile.”

Durk also commented on his style of rap on Twitter.

“Studio makin hits sing rap lol all dat got me dis money,” he wrote.
