A sophomore tight end for the Arkansas football team who was found dead in his dorm room Sunday morning was laid to rest in a service Nov. 28. The service was held at Christ the King Catholic Church.
1,200 mourners attended the funeral mass.
Garrett Uekman, 19, was found unresponsive in his room and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
He was later taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A roommate last saw Uekman an hour before he was found and “he appeared to be in good health,” the university said in a statement.
The Washington County Coroner’s office said it was likely an undiagnosed heart condition called cardiomyopathy that claimed the yound man’s life. The 19-year-old’s condition, where the heart becomes enlarged, was not previously detected.
