Ronald Hayes, known to friends and family as Duck, was shot dead Sunday afternoon while shoveling snow in his neighborhood to earn extra money.

Hayes was found unresponsive outside an apartment complex a few blocks from his mother’s home, ABC 7 reports.

Hayes, who attended the Banner Academy West High School, planned to take his mother Cathy Booker to prom, according to ABC 7. Booker told the Tribune her son’s goals were to attend college and become a police officer.

Hayes was a strong opponent against violence as he commonly shared memes professing this stance to his IG account.

In a post captioned, “Killa Klan Yall Wat Time It Is,” Hayes posted a meme of a black male firing off a gun at another black male.

“Stop Da Violence Black Men Ya doing the klans job Better Than Them!” the meme read.



Another meme posted to Hayes’ account features mother crying over her dying son. The meme reads, “You could love the streets, but it will never love you.”

Hayes captioned this post, “SHIT REAL OUT HERE YALL F**K N****S BETTA WAKE GN #IG.”



Hayes was set to graduate from high school in June.
