Did Drake Start From The Bottom?

Drake’s infectious “Started From The Bottom” is running the airwaves. The song, produced by Mike Zombie, details the Canadian emcee’s rise to the top.

The video shows Drake as a young man working in a grocery store and getting a promoted to assistant manager. From there, Drake and his crew fly in a private jet to the islands.

In “Started From The Bottom,” Drake raps, “Living at my mama’s house we’d argue every month/ Nigga, I was trying to get it on my own/ Working all night, traffic on the way home/ And my uncle calling me like “Where ya at?/ I gave you the keys told ya bring it right back”

But did the rapper, born Aubrey Graham, really start from the bottom? The Canadian artist is best known for his role as Jimmy “Wheelchair Jimmy” Brooks on the television series “Degrassi.” Drake inked this deal through a friend with a father who was an agent.

Drake, who grew up in a Jewish household, can attribute his humble beginnings to an affluent neighborhood in his hometown of Toronto, ON Canada. He attended the prestigious Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. FHCI is regarded as a school with an “undisputed reputation for academic excellence” where most of its graduates go on to higher education, according to the school’s website.

Drake later transferred to Vaughan Road Academy, but later dropped out.

Drake slammed critics who question his life’s hardships on his “October’s Very Own” blog.

“I feel sometimes that people don’t have enough information about my beginnings and therefore they make up a life story for me that isn’t consistent with actual events,” he wrote. “I did not buy my way into this spot and it was the furthest thing from easy to achieve. I am proud of every part of my past and I’m excited for this song to find a place in your life as well.”
