Dwyane Wade’s Cousin Shot and Killed In Chief Keef’s OBlock Neighborhood

Dwyane Wade is currently mourning the loss of his cousin Nykea Aldridge who was shot and killed in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood in Chicago.

Aldridge, 32, was shot in the head just as she finished registering her children at Dulles School of Excellence, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Aldridge was caught in the crossfire when two men approached another man in the vicinity and opened fire. She was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Dwyane Wade, who recently signed with the Chicago Bulls, issued a statement on his cousin’s death via Twitter.

He wrote, “My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough.”

He went on to post a series of more tweets calling for an end of the bloodshed in Chicago.

Wade and his mother were recently part of a series of panel discussion gun violence hosted Thursday at the South Side YMCA in Chicago by The Undefeated on ESPN.

“It’s deep-rooted. This is something that didn’t start today, this is something that isn’t going to end tomorrow, this is something… hopefully, eventually we can stop it,” he said.

Wade’s mother, Jolinda Wade, spoke to reporters outside Stroger Hospital.

“Just sat up on a panel yesterday, The Undefeated, talking about the violence that’s going on within our city of Chicago, never knowing that the next day we would be the ones that would be actually living and experiencing it,” Ms. Wade said. “We’re still going to try and help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction, so this thing won’t keep happening. We’re still going to help empower people like the one who senselessly shot my niece in the head.”
