Savage Squad rapper Extendo Quono died Wednesday afternoon after he was shot by Chicago Police at 61st and King Drive in the Washington Park neighborhood on the City’s South Side, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Quono, whose real name is Aquoness Cathery, was reportedly armed with a semi-automatic pistol when he was shot. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died hours later from his injuries. He was 24.

“At one point the officers fired and shot the offender, who was then taken into custody,” Chicago Deputy Police Chief Kevin Ryan told the Tribune.

Police didn’t provide a reason why officers shot Quono, WGN 9 reports. They say do not believe the man fired his weapon.

An autopsy Thursday revealed Quono died of multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to a medical examiner report obtained by Fox 32 Chicago.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating the incident, ABC 7 Chicago reports. The officer will be placed on 30-day leave, which is standard operating procedure.

Fredo Santana took to Twitter to mourn the loss of his artist.

He wrote, “Long live quano frontstreet or no street Bzzz.”
