A peaceful protest in Ferguson turned into a night of mayhem Sunday after police bombed demonstrators with tear gas. Police fired tear gas as protesters marched towards their command center.
Women and small children were among the hundreds of demonstrators.
Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson went back on statements made early Saturday that tear gas would no longer be used on protesters
A protester questioned police for suiting up in gas masks prior to the tear gas attack.
“They suiting up for no reason,” she said. “Why do they have gas masks on if they not throwing tear gas?”
The tear gas drew the ire of another protester.
“They tryna push us back shooting that f-cking gas,” he said. “They shooting at innocent f-cking protesters. F-ck the police! They shooting at kids, man.”
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon announced early Monday the National Guard would be entering the City.
