Lil Herb was one of eight victims involved in a violent August 2012 gang shooting carried out by two gunmen in a drive-by shooting. The shooting occurred around 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of 79th Street and Essex Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Herb, who suffered a gunshot wound to the foot, opened up on the shooting in an interview with VladTV.
“I was in the streets. That’s what comes with the streets. The situation is actually a long story,” Herb told Vlad. “The enemies – you know how it go on, warzone in Chicago – pulled up shooting. I got hit in the foot. It was minor. Eight of us got shot. It wasn’t really no serious injuries. A lot of leg shots. It’s normal. It wasn’t my first encounter with bullets or guns, shootings… it’s normal. Life goes on. I just try to move past it.”
Herb was affected mentally by the shooting.
“Before I got shot, my feelings and the way I was moving kinda changed because the streets change you,” he explained. “After I got shot my sympathy for people reduced. I really don’t have strong feelings for people unless it’s genuine; like my family and close friends. I wouldn’t say I don’t have a heart because I’m actually a nice guy. I’m giving to the people I care. In the streets, you can’t really work with feelings.”
